‘Within his human life, Jesus continued to do what he’d been doing with His father and with the Spirit since that Genesis moment. He continued to express life, love and hope creatively. When he taught, he didn’t set out a list of slogans or objectives, he told odd little stories that embrace complexity and engage the heart, stories of pearls and widows and sheep.  When he prayed he almost seemed to resist repetition.  He prayed with joy, he prayed with tears, he prayed with sweat, he prayed in silence, he prayed with words, he prayed alone, he prayed with others, he prayed with mud, he prayed with spit.  And in so many ways I’m sure we aren’t even aware of.  Have you ever wondered why Jesus was so creative, so diverse, so various in the ways he prayed? Wouldn’t he just want to hit on the perfect ministry model and keep repeating it?’

Voor mijn member care studie hoop ik mijn eindonderzoek te schrijven over het gebruik van muziek en kunst in member care. Het past bij mijn achtergrond als muziektherapeut, en je kunt vanuit zoveel interessante oogpunten naar dit onderwerp kijken. God kan ons via schoonheid (niet alleen wat ‘mooi’ is) raken op een manier die we niet kunnen pakken, die mysterieus is. Wat we richting God niet kunnen uiten met woorden, kunnen we wel uiten met muziek en creativiteit en beweging. Tom Wright schrijft hoe we kunnen werken aan Gods koninkrijk door rechtvaardigheid (justice), schoonheid (beauty) en evangelisatie (evangelism). ‘And we should never forget that when Jesus rose from the dead, as the paradigm, first example and generating power of the whole new creation, the marks of the nails were not only visible on his hands and his feet. They were the way he was to be identified. When art comes to terms with both the wounds of the world and the promise of resurrection, and learns how to express and respond to both at once, we will be on the way to a fresh vision, a fresh mission.’ (Uit: Surprised by Hope)
